Crunchpad is Now JooJoo Web Slate: Is There Any eBook Possibility?

While crunchpad is said to be  ‘dead’, there has been actually a resurrection in the name of JooJoo. The JooJoo website says it’ll premier on Friday, December 11; but you can’t get it unless you’re big-shot reviewer. You have to wait 8-10 weeks when the company plans to ship it. Cnet has an early review of the device. The specifications:

  • a 12.1-inch diagonal 720p capacitive touch screen
  • 1366x768-pixel resolution
  • a built-in camera, mic, and speakers
  • one USB port
  • a card slot.
  • 4GB of cache memory
  • runs a proprietary Linux-based operating system
  • browser is based on Webkit
  • USB and Blutooth keyboards can be used
According to Cnet:
The hardware is slim and pleasing to hold. The screen is gorgeous, and huge, and the plastic back is gently curved. The unit is very slim, thinner than a MacBook Air. There are no buttons on the device, save the single power switch.
Downside:
  • No user-accessible file system and printer drivers
  • It is one focused device: Just browse the Web
What about the JooJoo as an ebook reader. I don’t have any idea. If there is no ereader installed and if you can’t even install any reader as there is no user accessible file sytem how can it be possible to read any local ebook. Might be anything in html format can be read on this device. No review yet from ebook angle. Here you can watch the Cnet’s hand-on:
